A closer look at wedding videos on DVD and
its many advantages.
Since videotapes
have not gone completely obsolete, DVD's offer far more features
and benefits than the very popular VHS tapes. In fact, VHS is still
being regarded as the most popular choice for duplication and distribution.
However, if you look around it is almost safe to
say that a blank DVD have become the # 1 choice among consumer
video media - if not the most popular for watching movies and so
on. With this mind, almost over 90% of U.S. homes have a DVD player.
The primary advantages of DVD tremendously exceeds
that of a VHS tape when producing wedding videos.
The primary advantages of DVDs over VHS are video
quality, extra features, and interactive menu navigation.
INTERACTIVE MENU NAVIGATION
It is almost impossible to think of a wedding couple
who does not want their wedding video on DVD. Most wedding couples
like the flexibility of navigating thru "scenes" or chapter menus
to find their favorite wedding moments. This saves time and is
also a fun way to enjoy your wedding video. Obviousy, all you can
do with a VHS tape is forward and rewind. Doing this to a VHS tape
dramatically decreases the durability of the VHS tape head, not
to mention the wear and tear on your VCR. On DVD, you can easily
navigate to the ceremony, reception, first dance with ease by pressing
two or three buttons.
MAXIMUM DURABILITY & QUALITY A DVD will not degrade with age or after many playbacks
like a videotape would. A DVD could last a lifetime with proper
care.
As for video quality there's a tremendous difference.
The better the resolution (number of horizontal/vertical lines)
on your TV, the bigger the difference in picture quality between
VHS and DVD. What you get with DVD is pure digital preservation,
specially if your wedding was shot in digital format.
Another great advantage is that you can play your
wedding DVD video on a DVD-ROM (a DVD playback capable drive on
your computer), either at home or at work.
"Perfect Sound" DVD audio quality is outstanding, by far the best.
DVD includes the option of PCM (pulse code modulation) digital
audio with sampling sizes and rates higher than audio CDs.
DVD also offers the capability of surround sound.
As for video, audio quality depends on how well the processing
and encoding is done. You could get true stereo sound from your
VHS, at best.
The most important thing to remember is that a DVD
preserves the highest quality possible video of your most memorable
day. In this day and age that's a big advantage over your grandparent's
wedding video ( but don't remind them that!).
Sometimes it feels that DVDs are so perfect for wedding
videos because of their ease of use, interactivity and it allows
to have all the contents put together nicely and well organized.
In fact, it almost feels that weddings and DVDs were
always meant to be together.
